For the purpose of this website, ACF will collect personal information about individuals where that information is necessary for any of the following primary purposes:
- identifying members of the community who are committed to issues of environmental significance;
- identifying groups of people within a specific area to ascertain the level of commitment to issues of environmental significance; and
- encouraging members of the community to be aware of issues of environmental significance and show their commitment by taking certain action
When you register your details on this website, your will be asked to provide personal information such as your name, email address, gender, year of birth or postcode, and your personal views on issues or places of environmental significance. You will need to provide us with a name to use the website (which may or may not be your full name), and your email address so that your registration can be confirmed.
If you choose to place yourself on the Who on Earth Cares map, your email address, gender and year of birth will not be disclosed to third parties, however, the name and postcode that you supply will be used to identify you and appear on a website map which is accessible to the public. It is entirely your choice whether you provide personal information or not. The only way that we will know something about you personally is if you provide it to us.
If you choose to send a message through the website to the Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and other Cabinet members, the message will be transmitted using the Prime Minister's contact system (otherwise accessible at pm.gov.au). Your full name, email, suburb, postcode, state and personal message will be sent to the Prime Minister, and stored by ACF. These details may also be distributed in electronic or hardcopy to other Federal Cabinet members and their staff.
ACF may sometimes use personal information about an individual for a purpose (the secondary purpose) other than the primary purpose. For example, ACF may use personal information for research purposes. This information is used in the aggregate (where possible), and remains anonymous. The information may be used to gather statistics regarding the number and frequency of visitors to the website and other demographics that will help ACF provide better services to its users.
